City Profile

Oak Creek, incorporated in 1907, is a statutory town located in southern Routt County, Colorado. The 2017 population estimate is 927 (Colorado Demography Office). Originally established as a coal mining community, Oak Creek’s economy is still supported by the Twentymile Mine, although many of our residents also commute further north to work in and around Steamboat Springs. Oak Creek residents’ occupations range from those in the sales, tourism, hospitality, and service industries to agriculture, business, construction, retail, transportation, utilities, administration, education, entertainment/recreation, and more.

Many sites and services are available in Town including our local library, community center, Colorado Northwest Community College for community education opportunities, several restaurants/bars, lodging accommodations, multiple parks, as well as our Town Hall, Tracks & Trails Museum, fire department, post office, South Routt School District, bank, pharmacy, market, and general store (please see our Community Services link for additional information).
